A twelve membered girl group…
that is a lot of girls, is what I thought when I saw them but then again, I
have seen AKB48 and their other 48 sister groups and so I should be surprised
by numbers now.
WJSN or also known as “Cosmic Girls” is girl group with 12 members who are either Koreans or Chinese. This group
was formed under the co-project of the Korean and Chinese companies, Starship
Entertainment and Yue Hua Entertainment.
What I find different about them
is that the members are already categorised into groups of three according to
their talent which ranges from vocal, dance, acting, and others. The group also
plans to establish a unique identity for themselves will show on stages both in
Korea and China.
WJSN dropped their first
mini album "Would you like?" which has a total of six songs which are:
01. Space Cowgirl
02. MoMoMo (모모모)
*Title
03. Catch Me
04. Tick-Tock
05. Take My Breath
06. MoMoMo (Chinese Ver.)
(Since the sixth song is just the Chinese version of the Korean
song, I will not be doing a review of it.)
Now let us get
on with the review.
“Space Cowgirl”
as starts with a futuristic melody, kind of like the melody you hear when your
RPG character embarks on a new adventure.. hahha.. Will someone explain to me
why they made an intro with no actual singing in it?
The title track is ‘Mo Mo
Mo’, which is said to represent the girls and show them as lively, healthy,
bold and mysterious girls. The song is co-composed by hit makers, Kim Do Hun and
Seo Yong Bae. The song has a retro vibe to it with vintage rhythm. The song
speaks of meeting the lover and spending time with him by sharing stories with
him and in return asking him to share his story. The song is simple and
repetitive to a point where it gets mildly boring.
The music video shows the
girls all huddled up in a deceptive looking small house where they are is a
bedroom, a garden, a café like looking room and a stuffed animal toy room. An astronaut
stumbles upon the small house and is entertained by the girls but then he gets
pushed out and something happens and we find out Lee Kwang Soo has been eyeing
the small room through his telescope… ????
I give up, you guys tell me
exactly what this music video is supposed to show us. I am just going on to the
next song.
“Catch Me” has a cool start
and the song is bold and more pop blended then the previous track. “Catch Me”
has a different flow and that gives the song a unique stance to it. The music
is addictive, sometimes I do feel that the “eh” is a bit unnecessary. I saw the music video for it, which was more like a dance video... got to hand it to the girls they are good in performance but I feel that the girls keep touching their lips... I guess they are associating it with being sexy.
The bests and vibe go back
to fun and cheery with “Tick Tock”. The song has an overall late 90s vibe to it
with its retro beats and rhythm. The chorus is catchy and cute to listen to. The
clap along beat is uplifting to listen to but is not something you can listen
to over and over again. The song sadly doesn’t stand apart as unique or
different.
“Take my Breath” starts off
with a loud attention grabbing marching band drum rolls! “Take my breath” sings
about the boys whose charm and flair has taken away the breath of the girls. The
song is sweet and charming to listen to and the chorus is mildly intriguing.
