The last Friday of March is here and STATION has dropped one of the most realistic and relatable works since it began. Amber dropped her digital single for STATION this week with a moving motivational song titled “Borders”.

Now before I begin with the review, I think it is best that I post what Amber has to say about the song first.

Credit to the owner.

“Borders” can easily be anybody’s pick me up song for it is not just for the mind, but for the soul. Amber starts strong and finishes with a band. The lyrics are simplistic and clear as it touches upon self-confidence, standing up for once self, faith and making it through the struggles.

Time and again, Amber sings about fighting and standing up for who she is and what she feel, so much so that it really does feel like a regular Amber is singing this song instead of the famous f(x) Amber.

The music video shows Amber inside a light tube built cube as she sings about fighting the odds. Three different visuals are show one of which includes a boy and his mother; another is about a woman who seems to have issues with her body image and a man who is at a standstill in life. Aside from the young boy and his mother, the other two individuals are show as though they are choosing to end their life, but fortunately do not go down that path and instead choose to live life the way it is.

A truly motivational song that is simple yet very addictive. By far the best work from Amber.

There were some amazing comebacks, activities and debuts that took place during my finals that I was unable to fan-girl over =.= so I am going to go over all of them right now, hope you guys are ready for it!

Amber’s  solo debut mini album titled Beautiful consists of 5 songs - shake that brass, beautiful, heights, love run and just wanna- but before we go into the songs and how fabulous they are, let’s talk about the singer!

Amber is the first female singer (lead ‘rapper’) to get a solo album. heck, she beat SNSD to it! (Not that we are showing favouritism, but SNSD is Amber’s senior and technically they should have been the ones to…… you know.) but novelty can Amber bring to the table that the others before her haven’t. The album answers it all!

SM is like the master of deception! You think that person is good only at rapping or only at dancing but once they open their mouth…….. Need I explain?

Amber’s album oozes with feminism and female power!  The namesake song ‘beautiful’ crisply puts out the much clichĂ©d idea of ‘inner beauty’ and ‘be you’.

‘shake that brass’ is a fun song that shows Amber’s laid back attitude. The song just basically asks you to shake that thang- /wink wink/

‘love run’ (a personal favourite) is a song that best demonstrates Amber’s vocals. There is a sort of soothing yet breezy nature to her voice and as she sings this song, her vocals gently tread across. A song meant for easy listening and is soon to be a favourite.

‘heights’ is a party mix song that still pretty much sticks to showing of Amber’s singing voice.

‘Just wanna’ is a song done in collaboration with Eric Nam. This song is a little something for the western listeners. A simple song about love at first sight which is so cute coming from Amber and Eric. But I would have preferred if the male singer had a much baser voice as that would have elevated Amber’s subtle sweet voice and added more dimension to the song.

In short, Amber’s solo is a steal. Her voice is so breezy and so easy on the ears that you can listen to over and over without feeling tired.
