The adorable thirteen
membered boy group “SEVENTEEN” is back with their first ever full length album
titled “Love Letter”. The album has a total of ten songs which are엄지척 (Chuck), 예쁘다 (Pretty
U), 이놈의 인기(Still Lonely), 유행가 (Popular song), Say Ye, 떠내려가 (Drift Away), 아낀다(Adore U (Vocal Team Version)), 만.세 (Mansae
(Hiphop Team Version)), Shining Diamond (Performance Team Version) and 사랑쪽지 (Love Letter).
We have a lot ahead of us so
let us get this party started! The album starts off with an intro number that
goes hard-core in beats. “Chunk” keeps the tempo and the beat on a high and the
song is exhilaratingly addictive. A great song to kick start the album with and
considering that the member each had a hand in creating the songs for the
album, the intro track really shows a lot of promise.
Up next we
have the sweet romantic love song “Pretty U” which also happens to be the title
track for this album. The song is peppy with its easy to follow along beats and
the cute pauses that the music gives in. one can easily get immersed in this
music. The song “Pretty U” adores the lady love and is bound to make you smile
as you listen to it. I love the chorus.
The music
video shows the members of SEVENTEEN prepping for a late night party and invite
the entire town to their party by sticking their posters and the groups symbol
on every clear smooth surface. The music video doesn’t feature a lead lady but
focuses on the fun the members have. A cute video to watch.
The third song
is “Still lonely”, and do not get let down by the name of the title, no the
song is not a ballad. The song is as peppy as its predecessors and as magical
to listen to as well!. The song has some of the most tuned out melodies which
has layers of rhythm in it. “Still lonely” has a cute and unusual chorus. The
clap along beat is really addictive.
“Popular song” starts of slow and cruses on
this pace for a while, the song is moving for the way the vocal line
harmonises. The music for once takes a back seat in this song as the vocals
rise to unsurmountable heights. The members show their true nature through the
lyrics they sing which gives this song a genuine feel. “Popular song” deserves
to be a must listen in this album so far, the climax towards the end is so
beautiful.
The boat still
drifts on the sea of ballads with “Say yes”, which is a love song where the
guys ask the lady love to not leave their side and to accept them for their
love and for who they are. The song is serious in tone and the high notes the
boys reach is unbelievable. The song is moving for the lyrics and the
accompanied by the delicate piano, is truly a beautiful track to listen to.
Things pick up
in “Drift away” as the melody and the mood is much lighter. The song “Drift
away” follows a more laid back blues tune though but builds up as it reaches
the chorus. The boys effort really show through in subtle tracks like this, it
is simply mind-blowing how well their voices complement one another.
Now it is time
for the vocal front of SEVENTEEN to take centre stage as they do their version
of “Adore U”. Aside from being amazed by how well they are able to pull off a
fast paced number into a ballad track while still maintaining the true essence
of the track is astounding. You could listen to this track for days and yet not
get tired of it.
If that didn’t
throw you off, then let the hip-hop front of SEVENTEEN do the honours as they
tackle down “Mansae”. The song is arranged in such a way that it is simply not
possible for you to think that it is “Mansae” until they sing the chorus and
then you are like.. ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… hahahah so far I am enjoying
the way how they sort of cover their own song.
“Shinning
Diamond” by the performing front of SEVENTEEN has a cocktail of tunes and rhythm
all mixed together and makes multiple references to their previous tracks that
it is so pretty to listen to. This song also gets an easy gold from me.
And finally we
have “Love letter” which has a breezy vibe to it. It is evident that the song
is about confessing to the lady love and this song takes it on with such a
genuine and carefree way that it seems believable that these boys are really in
love. The song has such a refreshing feel to it because of the various vocals
and all of them coming together for the chorus.
