ADMIN VIRGIL
Just finished listening to Lee Hong Ki's debut solo album and I am so glad that I did! The man takes experimental music to a whole new level. but before I go on with that let me give you some ground info about it.
Lee Hong Ki's debut album FM302 consists of five mind blowing tracks namely, “Let’s seize the day”, “Insensible”, “Kings for a day”, “Be
your doll”, “LOL” (LOUDNESS OF LOVE) and “In the rain”.
Lee Hong Ki literally threw me out of this world with the way he sings in English!
The first song "Lat's seize the day" is sung entirely in English and is something that has been running in my mind all this while. The song packs in some techno beats and retro tunes which gives it a distant ethereal feel. The song is mesmerizing and creates imagery with its lyrics. This is a motivational song that re-instills the ever popular
phrase “Carpe Diem”. Lee Hong Ki is so hopeful in this song that he makes me believe that I can do anything!
I flew! or as my teacher once said, "I flied"
“Insensible” is the title
track in the album and delves into the depths of a relationship gone sour. The song
has a dramatic sound track and accompanied by Hong Ki’s powerful vocals, the
messages reaches well to the listener. The song is strong in terms of the beat
and the lyrics. The music video feature Park Shin-Hye as Hong Ki’s lady love
and the two portray the breaking away in the most painful way possible. The music
video is just as dramatic and focuses more on Park Shin-Hye’s perspective as
she carries the weight of the music video with the ease in her acting. The music
video is worth watching for Park Shin-Hye’s acting.
The next track takes a
complete turn from the previous track. Hong Ki is confident and daring in “Kings
for a day” where he talks about taking over the world with his quirking ways
and style. The song has a simple subtle guitar tune which builds up as it reaches
the chorus. The song has an addictive feel and the repetitive lines in English
make sure they stick ringing in your ears for a long time. This song literally makes me feel like I am Simba!
aside from that fact that, that is how my face contorts itself when I reach them high notes, bruh!
Moving on!
“Be your doll” is the next track and is a simple
rock pop based love song. The song explores many beats and tunes which overlap
one another, leading to an interesting listen and has an experimental feel to
it. Hong Ki is quirkier than ever in this track and even flirty with the
lyrics. I think musicality wise, this song is serious something else. Hong Ki is really good at this. You should check this song just for the haphazard cohesive melody. I wonder how they made this, maybe then just mixed a bunch and it came out cool.
Nevertheless, I love it!
“Lol” or loudness of love,
revisits the eighties rock music with its falling beats and tension raising
drum beats. In this song, Hong ki asks the lady to stay by him as there nothing to fear and their love with protect, I tried to go to him....
The album sadly comes to an
end with a ballad. “In the rain” is a sad song, okay? it is about missing the
significant other and trying to wash the pain away in the rain. The song plays with mah life .... like I can't EVEN!
When an album plays with your emotion and takes your life to be an empty chips packet in the wind, then it is definitely worth buying.
What I am telling you is that you should give this album a listen. who knows you might like it. It definitely made me appreciate Hong Ki more and... and his voice. . . is a woosh . . . (Like the breeze)
That is all for today, this album has given me the courage to do something I have always wanted to do.
Become a Vampire and have a good'ol trusted canine as me assistant, who will guide me as we swoop down and bit ye' neck! what? Never heard of a sailor vampire? *mumble mumble* . . .
