Dubbed as “T-Ara’s little
sister group”, MBK Entertainment‘s newest girl group DIA recently dropped their
debut full length album titled ‘Do It Amazing’. The album has a total of 11
songs, being ‘Rapids music’, ‘Lean On Me (Feat. Microdot)’, ‘Somehow’ (title
song), ‘My friend's boyfriend’, ‘Star in my heart’, ‘Like Yesterday’, ‘Place’, ‘Say
Hello’, ‘Somehow (Chinese Ver.)’, ‘Somehow (Acoustic Ver.)’ and Somehow (Inst.)
Shinsasdong Tiger and
Monster Factory have produced the album, with YG producer BIGTONE, Microdot,
Sanchez, and actor Hyun Woo participating in the album. It is being reported
that DIA members Seung Hee and Cathy also contributed in writing the songs.
The album kick starts with a
short song that incorporates subtle acoustics in the track. The girls deliver
from the first song in itself as their range is portrayed very well.
Microdot starts the next
track and adds the much add flavour and dimension to this pop track. The song
has a lot of tapping beats and the rap interludes add variety to the track.
‘Lean on Me’ is an amusing song to listen to and has the potential to be made
into a music video.
The girls’ up the beats in
‘Somehow’, the song has some varying beats which added with the girls range in
singing in the track adds vibrancy. The song sways from one genre to another
with ease and the girls are on par with each style.
‘My Friend’s Boyfriend’ is a
curiously titled track. The girls opt for a sugar coated track with its beat
which mimics arcade music. The song though has a lot of good things added to
it. This is a fun track to listen to.
‘Star in my heart’ has a
ballad tone to it and shows offs the girls raspy voice. The song is majorly
accompanied by a piano. The song gives off a different side to the girls, who
up until now catered to mainstream pop music.
‘Like Yesterday’ continues
to explore with the ballad acoustic vibes as the girls don a more wispy tone
with this track. The vocals harmonize rather beautifully and the rap was a
surprise but an enjoyable welcome in the track.
‘Place’ starts with a
tensing melody and then goes off to a subdued melody which builds as the song
progresses. This song shows more diversity of the vocals. The song is mellower
than the rest but seems to shows that the girls are home in the R&B, Soul
genre rather than pop music. This song and ‘Like Yesterday’ are a must listen
to track in this album.
‘Say Hello’ has a dreamy
feel to it, with its spaced out and techno beats. The melody is slow and hazy
as the girls sing in a slightly auto tuned voice. This song is soft and easy to
listen to.
The next three tracks are
the Chinese alternative, acoustic and instrumental version of ‘Somehow’. While
the Chinese track shows that the girls are eager to please global Chinese
listeners, the acoustic version shows that the girls can handle the same track
irrespective of it being acoustic or poo dance. The girls carry off the song
with ease.
The music video shows the
girls exploring the city, catching glimpses of the fleeting summer. The girls
seems to move in packs of two and three and move around, exploring the
different lifestyles. This grouping makes it easy to give the much needed
attention to each and every member. The music video is fun and is a great way
to listen to.
