“Drug Restaurant” (which was
formerly known as Jung Joon Young Band) recently dropped their online album
titled “Drug Restaurant”. The album has a total of four songs in it, which are:
01. Intro (정준영밴드=Drug
Restaurant)
02. Mistake (Title)
03. Sexy Bomb
04. What?!
So let us get
on with the review!
The album kicks off with their intro number “Drug
Restaurant” which is a short song reminiscing with tunes of yesteryears and the
perfectly timed chants of “Drug Restaurant” echoing into the distance.
Listening to this song made me feel like I am fading away, or more aptly put by
my man here
Slap right into the title
song of the album - “Mistake” which is composed by Jung Joon Young and Jo Dae
Min (Dammit), with lyrics produced by Jung Joon Young. The song as you may or
may not have guessed by the title sings about making a mistake and being
engulfed in it. The lyrics are gloomy and dark and when paired with the ever mesmerising
vocals of Jung Joon Young is pure magic in the air. The melody is addictive and
the chorus sticks with you. The music video stars newbie actor Park Hyun Soo
who (so aptly) portrays the hardships a young waiter experiences at his job. How
he takes revenge is the icing on the cake!
"Sexy Bomb" starts slow but only lasts a few seconds and immediately picks up the hyped beats in which "Mistake" ended. And then Jung Joon Young's "husky Moksori" kicks in and you are taken for a ride as he sings about the sexy bomb that has enticed him. By the end of this number, you will be sings "Sexy bomb, se-sexy bomb" with them.
The short album comes to a close with "What?" which is my reaction as to why there are only four songs in here. I so need more and more of "Drug Restaurant". This song is another gloomy number about pain and giving in to it. The song has a haunting melody.
There is something in Jung Joon Young's voice that is hauntingly hypnotic. He controls the music so well and his voice always seems to overwhelm listeners new and old. It is a peculiar charm that he has and when mixed in with the skills of the other band members creates some really explosive melody.
