ADMIN VIRGIL

Hey hey we are back and this time with Lee Hi’s second part of her album “Seoulite”. The album has a total of six songs which are My Star, 희망고문 (Blues),  스쳐 간다 (Passing By), 밤샘 (Up All Night Feat. Tablo), 안봐도 비디오 (Video Feat. Bobby) and Missing You.

I am already excited for my gurl here and the amount of songs she has put out so far in this album is mind-blowing… just wanted to put that out before I get into the review.

Let us begin the review with the first song which is “My Star” which is retro jazz trumpeting number that sings about finding the one. The song has some of the cutest yet simplistic and realistic lyrics I have listened to so far. The song revisits the genre of the past years and rekindles its magic, which is only resonates in multitude with Lee Hi’s voice.

The music video features One and the two are such a cute couple I love the kiss they share towards the end of the music video… ssssssssssswwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeetttttttttttttt. The music video does not shy away from colour and eighties outfit, plus it looks really good on Lee Hi so no complains. The music video is a must watch!

“Blues” brings you up to the present with its breezy blues tones and chilling vocals. This song is slow paced but it really gives you a fresh take on Lee Hi’s voice as it literally echoes off of the melody and penetrates. “Blues” sings about meaning to let go of one another and moving on, as much as heart-breaking as it sounds, Lee Hi makes sure it is melodious to sound as well. There is sort piece of her singing in English in this song and that pretty much sums up the theme of this song. “Blues” makes for an easy listen and an instant favourite.

When “Passing by” started I knew it was going to be one of my favourites out of their album and it was because of its basic blues/rock blend. The song has a haunting feel to it and stays with you long after the song ends. “Passing by” is a classic song that shows Lee Hi at her best.

“Up all night” starts of sounding like an OST for an Anime. The song features Tablo and I was curious to know how the two would work around this song. I love the piano accompaniment in this song as it gives this song the much needed delicate like feel and mood. This song is about missing about that special someone and tired of playing the waiting game. Tablo comes up and spews up some English verses which I was thankful for and his voice is as spooky as the essence of this song. But I like and it makes for an interesting listen, another easy favourite. I recommend this song.

“Video” features Bobby! That just means it is going to be epic… “Video” is a song about walking away from the significant other and later regretting it. Lee Hi is basically tired of playing the games of love, while Bobby comes in and does his own spin of Passenger’s ”Let her go”. But nonetheless, the song pack a punch of its own and the two voices really complement one another effortlessly, like it was magic.

And finally we have “Missing you” which is an overflow of emotions and feels. Just as the title of the song suggest, Lee Hi sings about missing the special someone and she just keeps hitting the high notes and goes full throttle with her voice that there is no turning back for us listeners. A solid song that just like the others mimics the music of the yesteryears but reinterprets it with Lee Hi’s solid vocals.
